Disclaimer: Beverly Hills Teens is not my property only my OCs Summer,
Phineas, Jordan, however are. The series is owned by DIC/Cookie Jar and others involved.
This story is a spin off of
's BHT fanfic "Vain".
The drive to auto show was almost uneventful. Somewhere between the water and coffee, a stop or two became necessary, not to mention Escaflowne could use a bit of petrol along the way.
Jordan was more than happy to answer any all questions about Phineas' "White Dragon". A few people even got the name and reference, which impressed them quite a bit. The American hot-hatch fans were quite impressed. Some knew what the "Pug", or Peugeot was by sight, others knew it by name, by way of the Gran Turismo game series, but never figured on actually seeing one.
Phineas took short Q&A's when Jordan was in restroom. He turned down a more than a few phone numbers, and social media friending options, by quite a few girls, and a few guys as well but he happily offered the garage's various social media info instead, and they were more than happy to take it. He also told them about the car show.
They even met up with few other attendees for the show. It wasn't long before there was a small convoy, of modified VW's, Hyundais, Kias and Honda Civics of various generations, there were even a few older modified Ford Escorts as well.
The sounds of modded engines, exhausts, and turbo blow-off valves were not easily ignored. A few of the other vehicles were on flatbeds, or trailers, as the owners didn't were not risking the drive. Their loss, Phineas thought.
Since everyone was heading the same way, Phineas turned off the sat-nav on his phone, and instantly Brenda's picture wall paper came up. Jordan notice the small but sudden smirk on Phineas' face.
Phineas side-eyed Jordan, when he heard the chuckling.
"What?", he inquired.
"Nothing dude, it's just pretty cool seeing you like this. It's been a while since...well, y'know..." Jordan's voice trailed off in a bit of worry.
"I'm good mate. Really I am.", he almost sounded convincing, "I can't spend the rest of my life crying in my beer for something I had no control over."
Not knowing if Phineas really was one hundred percent ok, Jordan went for a quick change of topic of discussion change.
"God, I envy you that. I'm still three years out from be able to drink. Well, legally anyway."
"It's no big deal really, the novelty goes away fairly quickly. If you ever want to hang out for drinks though, you can always visit.", Phineas suggested nonchalantly.
"I just my take you up on that." Jordan's voice was brimming with excitement at the thought of that. ", If I can snag a few gigs at this show, I'll definitely have the money to do that. Um, pending Brenda not having any problems with that."
"That would be brilliant. I don't see any problems with that. It's not like we're a couple.
"Ha!", Jordon snorted, "You keep telling yourself that. Just because you haven't asked her, doesn't make it not so."
"I'm kind of old school that way.", Phineas returned.
"So you have kissed her, right?", Jordan asked like that annoying younger sibling, leering over at Phineas, looking for a telltale expression.
"Well...yeah...", he answered, "Actually, she kissed me.", he added.
Jordan noticed the smile on his face.
"Did you like it, is she a good kisser?", Jordan asked, deciding to press the issue.
"Yes...", Phineas' mind automatically recalled their kiss at the airport, and the hotel, as he answered the question fighting of the response.
"But that's besides the point. Who doesn't like a good kiss...?"
"And there you have it.", Jordan declared quickly and triumphantly.
"And what is it exactly that we have?" Phineas was chuckling at Jordan's needling questions.
"That you're totally a couple dude." Jordan shot back.
"Okay, now, you're going to have to explain how you came to such quick conclusion, inspector." Phineas was quite curious about the process behind this.
"Well, first of all, you said she kissed you, and answered yes, to both questions, as you didn't try to differentiate the questions, also you didn't mind her kissing you, and the only way you can say she's a good kisser, is that the kissing has to be mutual, for you to be able to judge it.", Jordan pointed out.
"And also, you made an attempt to try and stifle the smile as you answered, and failed miserably.", point being made, Jordan took a slow and smug sip of iced raspberry green tea.
Just then, an fb chat message alert popped up.
Jordan squinted at the screen.
"Hey...speak of the devil. You have a message. You wanna get that?"
"Not right now.", Phineas was not about to hand Jordan another bit of evidence.
"No worries. Let's have a listen.", Jordan's hand had already hit the 'play' icon, before Phineas could swat it away.
"Hi Phin, I know you're still on the road, that's why I didn't call you, I figure this would be easier, and less distracting. Everything here for the luau is in place, and ready to go. Although, truth be told I'd rather be with you. Here, or there".", her voice was soft, and happy, with a bit of nervous energy to it, and Phineas's pulse definitely went up a bit.
"Anyway, I'm pretty sure you must be more than happy to be behind the wheel of your little white dragon. Call me or text me when you get settled in and everything, whichever one is easier for you.", her voice was trailing of into a lilt.
"Drive carefully.", she said in the softest of voices. Not too far from a whisper actually.
"Dude...", Jordan pointing out the obvious cute and longing in that last comment.
Phineas just sighed, "I wonder if this what Brenda goes through with Summer?", Phineas asked out loud.
"Summer?", Jordan's ears perked, and eye brows arched, "Who's Summer, and is she cute?"
Phineas just nodded, and laughed his friend's early adolescent like eagerness.
It was hours getting the cars checked in floor spots were assigned, last minute polishing up of the vehicles. It took even longer for the full blown "Show" cars. They were highly customized for sound and show. Practical driving, not so much, and expensive as all get out.
Both Phineas and Jordan exchanged, "What a waste.", glances. But to each their own they figured.
The main stage was all set up for a concert for the participants later in the early part of night . A pre-show party of sorts.
This was actually one Phineas's favorite parts of any car show. Looking at the the other cars, talking shop with the owners. Everyone from drivers, mechanics, and booth babes were all walking around, setting up shop, and whatnot in pretty much the everyday, or even weekend "kick-back and nothing doing clothes". Tomorrow they'll be looking rather different tomorrow, everyone will be looking considerably sharper, guys and girls.
As they made the rounds, a red EF91 hatchback(US), with a Hawaiian license plate caught Jordan's eye, and in an instant was off chatting up the owner up about it. Phineas, took advantage of the moment to make a call.
Brenda was in the process of checking the angles of all of the cameras placed in the giant hall. Of course in the process of setting up the cameras, she wound up playing "set director" of a sort. She chose the placement of the fountains, fake waterfalls, fauna, flowers, and rock formations to get the best shots possible, be it wide panning shot or close ups, she even had to do some consultation on the lighting. (Prehaps she should look into producing or director)
Normally that's something Chanelle would handle but she'd been spending a lot of time with Buck lately, and was nowhere to be found at the moment.
She checked her phone from time to time for message or chat alerts, she did have to use her phone down from time to time.
A few were messages from Chester who was trying to figure out what to wear to the luau regarding what to wear. While he managed to pull of the "Chill as a Vulcan." calmness that worked on everyone else. Brenda knew he was all manners of giddy. She was happy for him, but a little sad at the same time.
His crush on her bff, was sweet and cute, but she also knew that crushes are usually unrequited.
Talk about a catch twenty-two....
While she felt it wasn't fair, she realized that the heartbreak of a one-sided crush is all a part of growing up. She trusted that Summer would be careful with him on that. Still though, there was twinge of pain for them.
The other messages that she got, were from Summer. She was thanked her for teaching her editing techniques, and to let her know that the video of her meeting up with Phineas was coming along great, and the finished version promised to be something epic. One thing was for sure though, Summer was definitely happy for her best friend, if there was anyone she knew of deserved a prince to sweep off their by, it was definitely Brenda.
At that point her Phineas' ringtone began to play. It was the bluesy, and rockish theme to The Grand Tour. She went down a few of the steps of the ladder before jumping off, four feet to the floor.
Just as she landed she put in the her blue tooth earbuds and answered the phone. She was happy at the fact that it wasn't a voice call, her hair was all over the place, her skin was wee bit oily and sweaty. She figured she must've looked a total mess.
"Hi Phin!", her voice piped out melodically, as happy as she was to hear his voice, he could hear the the fatigue in hers.
"'Ello luv, how are you?", he replied. She's never said it before, but there was always something about his accent that just made her giddy. She could never put her finger on it though.
"I'm okay, I've been making some last minute changes here and there, I've been running up down ladders for the last few hours. We had to change the placement of a few cameras and other things here. I'm sure the tech crew, and support staff probably hate me by now." There was a bit of a nervous chuckle in her voice.
"Now who could ever be angry at cute girl as such as yourself?", he asked.
"Oh...I've had my moments, you have no idea.", again a bit of serious matter of factly tone in her voice. Memories and guilt of a former gossip girl crept up on her. She managed a quick recovery. "So how was your drive? Uneventful, I hope."
"It wasn't bad, Escaflowne's handling rather well, I have to say.", he answered with bit of pride in voice. "People had plenty of questions at the petrol stations and the traffic lights though." Brenda could hear his smile in his voice.
"Well it is a French hot hatch, with a right hand drive side.", in the land of muscle cars, SUV's, and customized Japanese and German cars, it's definitely going to turn a few heads.", she stated while undoing the cap on water bottle.
"Personally, I can't wait to see it."
She knew it was his pride and joy. It wasn't as revered as the legendary 205GTI, even though he has one tucked away as a project car, he loved his 206 just the same as any 205 owner loved their own, if not more.
"Well that part's definitely going to happen." he answered reassuringly.
"So are you all set up at the show?", she asked before taking another swing from the bottle.
"Pretty much. yeah. It's lot bigger than what I anticipated, this place is huge. I'll have to send you send some pics and maybe video tonight."
"Sweet.", her voice a little more enthusiastic.
"I mounted a Go-Pro on the dash, I managed to pick up some pretty cool footage on the drive. The fun part will be editing it all after I get back home."
Brenda winced at those words, he'd just gotten here, she didn't want to think about that part. She gulped her water hard at the thought, then she realized that he had to have heard it.
"Mmm, sorry!", she said quickly, swallowing the rest of the water as quickly as she could. "Ohmygod! I totally didn't mean to gulp in your ear like that.", her voice on the edge of an unexpected giggle.
Phineas laughed at the earnestness in her voice, she sounded like she came within millimeters of running over his cat.
"It's okay. I barely heard it.", of course, he heard but he wasn't going to make her feel any more mortified than she what she was already feeling.
That was one her endearing qualities, she was almost easily embarrassed.
He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but it made him feel at protective of her, and once again, the telltale smile was on his face, as well as the want to be with her. He could feel her kiss on his lips again. He quickly snapped out of it as if being jolted from a waking dream. Distracted by that, he almost tripped over his own feet.
He had to laugh out loud at that. Hearing the sudden burst of laughter, she asked what was going on, and he had to tell her. He laughed at himself while after explained told her. Brenda grew quiet momentarily, Phineas thought their phones had lost the connection in the silence. Until he heard, a distinct. "Pffffft!", followed by Brenda's own child-like laugh. "Somebody rolled a one for the dexterity.", she added. Phineas joined her in the laugh, it was long and loud one, but it was what they both needed.
Although they felt a bit of weight lifted off of their chests, they almost instantly they missed each other to the point of a fond heartache.
